St. Anthony Secondary School's History

St. Anthony Secondary Secondary School, which was originally St. Anthony’s Co-education Secondary School Ilorin was founded in 1st February 1968 by the Catholic Diocese of Ilorin with only 36 boys and 36 girls on roll. The Mission of the founders was to assist young women and men to see the goodness of God through standard and qualitative Christian education. The “Vision Statement” of the school is to prepare young women and men for life through qualitative education with its intrinsic value of firm moral foundation and academic excellence.

St. Anthony was the first mixed school in Ilorin. At foundation only very few private and public schools were in existence in Ilorin but the dedication and discipline of the school’s management and set of teachers over the years made St. Anthony to become first amongst it’s equals in Ilorin and Kwara State in General.

The first set of lessons were held at St. James’ Primary School, Sabo Oke, Ilorin using one classroom for the boys and the church for the girls. Sister Margaret Howes was the Pioneer Principal from Europe. At inception, there were only three teaching staff members – the principal, Sister Theresa and Sister Catherine. The school later moved to it’s present location in February 1968.

St. Anthony secondary school was grant aid by the Kwara State Government in 1974, while the school was upgraded to junior and secondary schools in the 2006/2007 academic session. The school has grown from strength to strength since then.

St. Anthony's School Anthem

St. Anthony, school of glory,
We lift your name on high,
With love and strength,
We build the verile school,
Unity and peace we stand,
Faire son devoir that’s the motto,
Let’s keep the flag flying.

In academics, physical aspect,
We develop greatly,
In God’s name, we will be the best,
And the best we shall stay
Faire son devoir that’s the motto
